You are wondering what to do in Bruges? You have come to the right place. Bruges is straight out of a storybook with its cobbled streets, canals, and medieval architecture.

It is a small town but filled with countless things to do. You can hit the main attraction in one day but I recommend staying for at least 2 days to really soak up this romantic European town. There are great chocolate shops, breweries, and restaurants.

  1. Take a Boat Tour down the canals-

Bruges is filled with intersecting canals. Many compare it to Venice. These canals have boat tours leaving every 30 minutes. They take you down the canals with breathtaking views of the town and architecture. It is very romantic scenery and was a highlight of the trip!

2. See the Beauty of the Belfry Tower-

The Belfry bell tower is one of the most recognized landmarks in Bruges. Be sure to check it out and if you have time climb to the top for beautiful views of the city below. For extra magic, be there at 11:00 am for when they ring the bells by hand.

3. Historic Centre of Bruges-

The building in the historic part of Bruges is what makes you feel like you are walking right in a fairy tale or a medieval town. Unique and beautiful architecture is abound in this area. Here is where you will also find City Hall, the Basilica of the Holy Blood with the relic of the Holy Blood

4. Markt Square-

Markt Square is where you will find the Belfry tower but it also the heart of the old Bruges. Cute buildings that house restaurants, stores, and pubs. Grab a beer or have some chocolate and enjoy the ambiance.

5. Stroll Around and Have Some Chocolate

Just walking around Bruges you will find countless chocolate shops. Belgium is known for their chocolate so you need to be sure to stop and try some from the local chocolatiers.

6. Lake of Love

The whole city of Bruges screams romance. So it is fitting that they have a lake dubbed the “lake of love”. Sit down in the park next to the lake and enjoy watching the swans. This would also be a great place to have a picnic.

7. Take Some Pictures at all the Scenic Spots

Bruges is city that has picture perfect spots everywhere. You will want to stop and take pictures of the scenery and make sure to get some of yourself. Here you will find the 7 most instagrammable locations in Bruges.

8. Quai of the Rosary-

This is one the most photographed part of Bruges. It is also the place where most boat trips depart. Be sure to check this out (and stop for a boat ride as well). There are benches to just sit and enjoy the scenery.

9. Beguinage-

Located just a few minutes from the Lake of Love, this is currently a convent. in the 13th century this was home to Beguines, women of a Christian spiritual movement. It is beautiful to see with unique buildings. History buffs will love seeing the 13th century complex still in tact.

10. Church of Our Lady-

This beautiful 13th century church is home to the second largest brick tower in the world. It is a marvel to look at. Inside houses an art gallery.

11. Hit up a Brewery-

Belgium is know for their chocolate and also their beer. Bruges is home to several great breweries and beer establishments. After going to the Beguinage, head to De Halve Maan Brewery for great beer and food.

12. Waffles and Frites!

Okay not together but definitely try them separately. Belgium is know for their beer, chocolate, and waffles. Heaven right? You also should try their Frites (fries) with Mayo! It wasn’t my favorite but definitely worth a try. When in Rome, I mean Belgium.

Bruges was a highlight of our Belgium trip, it is such a charming town. I much preferred it to Brussels. We stayed for 1 day and I wished we had stayed for 1 extra day. But if you are wondering what to do in Bruges, definitely do the 12 things I listed because they are amazing!

Be sure to pack a camera or if you are using your phone, pack a portable charger. Also, this body wallet came in handy so I didn’t have to worry about my wallet.
